On the 11th December WHUISA attended the second meeting of the Met’s Independent Advisory Group for football.
WHUISA Secretary, Sue Watson, will act as Vice-Chair to the IAG.
Those at the meeting set a direction for the IAG, including aims and objectives.
The objectives of the IAG will include: making sure policing of football matches is proportionate; ensuring fans are not ‘criminalised’ for supporting their teams; developing a relationship of trust and confidence between the police and fans.
A range of long-term key issues were proposed for discussion at future meetings. These include discrimination on and off the pitch; how football matches are categorised; the problem of touting and the security threat to supporters including terrorism.
Members of the IAG also received an update on operational matters including recent events and issues.
